Professor philip cotton

Prof. Philip Cotton is Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda (UR). Before his current post he was Principal of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, one of the six Colleges in UR. A physician, he holds a professorship of teaching and learning at the University Glasgow in Scotland. He worked as a clinician for many years, his Masters is in transformative education, and his doctorate is on accountability.

He founded a fair and ethical trading NGO and continues to work with an NGO serving children. In 2017 he was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen for this contribution to higher education in Rwanda, and in 2018 was awarded the ASME Gold Medal for his work in medical education.
