Kathryn Chu is a colorectal surgeon and a Professor of Global Surgery in the Department of Global Health at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. She is also the current vice-president of Doctors without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontiers-Southern Africa and on the board of directors of One to One Africa, a non-profit organization that provides mentor mothers for HIV infected pregnant women.

From 2012-14, Kathryn worked for the University of Rwanda with the Human Resources for Health program to train Rwandan surgeons. Kathryn’s research focuses on equitable surgical access for Africa with a particular focus on strengthening surgical capacity at district hospitals. She has also conducted research on improving the quality of care for humanitarian surgical delivery.
