Dr. Fredrick st goar
Dr. Fred St Goar is a cardiologist from Mt View, California and a serial innovator/entrepreneur. He has been involved with medical technology development for over 30 years, has numerous patents and has assisted in starting multiple med-tech companies. Dr. St Goar serves as the vice chairman of the board of the Fogarty Institute for Innovation, a Silicon Valley non-profit biotech incubator which has a mission to support globally impactful projects and women innovators. He also mentors in the Stanford University Biodesign program. In 1999, he founded the company Evalve which developed the MitraClip, the sole FDA approved percutaneous therapy for mitral regurgitation.
To date, this therapy has been successfully used in over 100,000 patients around the world. Dr. St Goar went to medical school at Harvard University and did his internal medicine and cardiology training at Stanford. He presently serves on UGHE’s Vice Chancellors Advisory Council. He is married to Dr Anne Friedlander, a Human Biology Professor at Stanford.
