Dr. Sharon Kapambwe
Dr. Sharon Kapambwe is the Assistant Director in the Ministry of Health with overall responsibility for cancer prevention in Zambia. She has ably led the national cervical cancer screening program which has emerged as the largest ongoing initiative in the Sub Saharan region and a best practice for low income countries. She has worked in the area of cancer prevention rising from Program Manager to Director for the African Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cancer Control. She has been offering technical assistance to Zambian First Lady’s Office since 2011 on women’s health programs in Zambia
She was awarded 2019 Woman of the Year in Zambia for her work in cervical cancer and general women’s health. She was awarded 2018 Merck Foundation award for her proactiveness and enthusiasm in establishing the Merck Foundation program in Zambia. She was also a recipient of the Zambia PEPFAR Champion 2015 award for her immeasurable contribution to cervical cancer prevention in Zambia.
